Getting There and Parking

Families provide their own transportation; here is general guidance on parking, transit, walking and biking to Rainbow Beach Park.

Families provide transportation

The Rainbow DJ Lab does not provide transportation. Families bring their children to class and pick them up.

Lab staff and volunteers never drive children in their personal vehicles, not even for a short trip and not even if asked. This protects your child and keeps every adult's behavior observable.

Parking

The Chicago Park District says metered parking is available in the lot at Rainbow Beach Park, and there's another lot nearby. Lakefront parking can fill up on summer days, so leave extra time. Please don't park in fire lanes or block the entrance.

Public transit

We haven't listed specific bus or train routes here. Service changes, and we'd rather you get the current route than an outdated one. Please plan your trip with:

Walking and biking

If your child walks or bikes with you:

  • Use crosswalks and signals. Streets near the lakefront can be busy.
  • Wear a helmet when biking, and bring a lock. Indoor bike storage is not available unless the park confirms it.
  • Lakefront wind can be cold even in spring and fall, so bring a layer.

Can my child come or leave on their own?

For Junior DJs (ages 8–11), a parent or guardian signs your child in, and they're released only to an adult on your authorized-pickup list after a photo ID check. They are never released to walk home alone unless you've given written permission in advance. You can choose this on the authorized pickup form.

Running late?

Call or text Stephen Henry at 872-255-9333. Your child stays with two screened adults until an authorized adult arrives.
