Attendance and Absences
How to tell us your child will miss class, what happens if they do, and how they catch up with no penalty.
Missing a class is okay
Kids get sick, families travel, and school gets busy. There's no penalty for missing a class, and your child won't lose their spot for an occasional absence.
How to report an absence
Please let us know before class starts if you can:
- Text or call: Stephen Henry, 872-255-9333
- Email: stephen@selassiefest.com
Include your child's first name and last initial, plus the class date. You don't have to give a reason. If your child is sick, see illness and keeping kids home.
If your child doesn't arrive and we haven't heard from you
Because a parent or guardian signs every child in, we always know who is in the room. If a Junior DJ who usually comes is missing and we haven't heard from you, we may call or text to check in. That's just a check-in, not a penalty.
How kids catch up
Our course is built on Passport stamps: 3 skills per Mission, 42 in all. A missed class means some stamps aren't earned yet. They aren't lost.
- At the next class, a mentor can show your child the skills they missed during Deck Time.
- The class app shows which Passport skills are still open, so you and your child can see what to work on.
- Kids practice missed skills at their own pace. There are no grades and no tests.
Many absences in a row
If your child misses several classes in a row, we'll reach out to ask how we can help. We will always talk with you before making any change to your child's enrollment.
The Showcase
The Rainbow Showcase is open to every enrolled child, whatever their attendance. Playing is always a choice.
