Performance Consent
Optional permission for your child to perform at public events beyond the classroom, which you can take back at any time.
Purpose
Inside class, playing for the group is always the child's choice. Spotlight is volunteers only, and coaches never call on a child who didn't sign up. The class app also won't put a child in the Spotlight on the main speaker unless this consent is on file. This optional form covers the in-class Spotlight and performing outside the classroom, in front of the public. The default is no.
Fill it out online: part of full registration, which opens only after every launch-checklist item is complete. Until then the online form is an interest list that doesn't ask for this. Printable version (for full registration after launch): performance-consent.pdf
What it covers
| Event | Notes |
|---|---|
| Rainbow Showcase | Families attend. Children who don't have this consent can still attend and help with a non-performing job such as Logger or Hype, if they want to. |
| Open Decks at Rainbow Wednesdays | Graduates get a guaranteed Open Decks slot. Rainbow Wednesdays is also proposed, so the slot applies when the series runs. |
| Youth Showcase open call, Theme Clash semifinals and Finale | Optional next steps after graduation. |
| SelassieFest | Not covered by this form. Ras Tafari Inc. produces SelassieFest, but it makes its own decisions about its lineup. Lab performers reach it only by event audience vote, and a child goes on a ballot only with a separate written consent from you, given before the vote is announced. See the performance pathway. |
At every performance, the sound, stage and lighting crew (Q-Ality Sound) never supervise children and never photograph or record them.

Full consent wording
Performance Consent: Rainbow DJ Lab, Ras Tafari Inc.
I am the parent or legal guardian of the child named on this registration. By checking this box, I give permission for my child to perform as a DJ (and, if my child chooses, on the microphone) at public events connected with the Rainbow DJ Lab, including the Rainbow Showcase, Open Decks at Rainbow Wednesdays, and related youth showcases, when and if those events take place.
I understand that: 1. My child will always choose whether to perform at any event. No one will pressure my child to perform. 2. A screened Lab adult will supervise my child at every performance. The program's two-adult and sign-out rules apply at every event. 3. Only clean lyrics (radio edits) will be played. 4. Performance times and locations will be shared with me in advance. I'll be told whether I need to be present. 5. My child will be introduced by first name only, unless I say otherwise in writing. 6. Members of the public may watch and may take their own photos. Ras Tafari Inc. will photograph or record my child only if I have also given media consent. 7. Performances are unpaid learning opportunities.
I understand this consent is optional and that refusing it will not affect my child's participation in class.
I may withdraw this consent at any time, including on the day of an event, by contacting Stephen Henry (872-255-9333, stephen@selassiefest.com) or telling the lead coach in person.
This consent lasts until I withdraw it or until the end of the season in which it was given, whichever comes first.
Who sees it
Stored privately for coaches and Stephen Henry only.
How long it's kept
It's kept with the registration record for 3 years, then deleted (policy commitment).
