After Graduation

What comes after the Rainbow Showcase, from Open Decks at Rainbow Wednesdays to the Theme Clash, and what happens to your child's data.

The pathway

Graduation isn't the end. Kids who want to keep playing have a path:

  1. Open Decks at Rainbow Wednesdays. Every graduate is guaranteed an Open Decks slot at Rainbow Wednesdays, the free summer DJ series. Rainbow Wednesdays is also proposed, so the guarantee applies when Rainbow Wednesdays runs.
  2. Youth Showcase open call. Graduates can answer the open call for the Youth Showcase.
  3. Theme Clash semifinals and Finale. The Theme Clash your child learned in Mission 11 becomes a competition.

The Youth Showcase and the Theme Clash semifinals and Finale are proposed stage shows too, with no dates set. Every step is optional.

SelassieFest is produced by Ras Tafari Inc., but it makes its own decisions about its lineup. A Lab child reaches the SelassieFest stage only by event audience vote, counted by someone with no interest in the result, and only with your written consent given before the vote is announced. Ballots show first name and last initial only, and SelassieFest never receives Lab roster, contact or attendance data. Trainers never recommend or rank children for any of these steps. See Performing and the pathway.

Plans for public events

Public events are busier than class, so they come with their own plans:

Performing in public needs your performance consent. Photos and video need your media consent.

Keep learning

  • Keep coming on Tuesdays. The Lab runs year-round, so a graduate can stay on as a returning DJ.
  • Keep the habits: count the phrase, call your own "Data!", write a "Next time I'll…" line.
  • Look after their ears: keep headphone volume low and take listening breaks, the same habits coached in class. See Hearing safety.

What happens to your child's data

These are policy commitments:

  • Child activity data (self-ratings, levels, Mix Log, Passport stamps) is deleted within 90 days after the season ends, unless you ask us to keep your child's Passport.
  • Registration records are kept for 3 years for safety and insurance purposes, then deleted.
  • You can review, correct or delete your child's information, or withdraw consent, at any time by contacting Stephen Henry.

See Retention and deletion and Parent data rights.

Tell us how it went

Your feedback shapes the next season and goes into our public reporting. See the feedback loop and the community accountability report.

What to ask at dinner, months later

  • "What would you play at Open Decks?"
  • "What theme would you clash with what song?"
  • "What would you teach a new kid on their first day?"
