What "Data!" means
In the Rainbow DJ Lab, a mistake is called "Data!" Here's how it works.
Mistakes are how DJs learn
Sometimes a mix crashes. The beats bump into each other, or a song comes in at the wrong time. It sounds messy.
That happens to every DJ. Even famous ones!
So we shout "Data!"
Data means information. A mistake gives you information about what to change.
When a mix crashes:
- Your team shouts "Data!"
- Someone taps the Data button.
- The DJ names one reason it crashed.
- The DJ tries again.
That's it! No one gets in trouble.
Reasons a mix might crash
- "The beats weren't matched."
- "I came in on the wrong beat. I missed the 1."
- "The bass was too loud on both songs."
- "I went too fast."
You only need to name one.
Who helps?
Your Co-pilot asks, "Did it work?" Your Logger writes it in the Mix Log. That way, next time, you'll remember.
What if it happens on a stage?
If you ever choose to play for a crowd, a grown-up from the Lab stands right next to you. If your mix crashes, they help keep the music going. The crowd is told to cheer. Nobody laughs. You choose to keep going or to stop. Both are OK.
Red lights are OK too
At the end of class, you rate yourself with a traffic light. Red means "Not yet." That's useful data! It tells you what to practice next.
