Open-Door Policy
Parents and guardians may observe any Rainbow DJ Lab session, unannounced, and here is how to visit without disrupting class.
You can watch any session
A parent or legal guardian of an enrolled child may observe any Rainbow DJ Lab session, at any time, without calling ahead. You don't need a reason. A program that has nothing to hide should be easy to watch, and we'd rather you see for yourself than take our word for it.
This is a policy Ras Tafari Inc. commits to. Formal board adoption is a launch requirement, and the Lab is not running yet.
How to visit
- Sign in at the check-in table. Every visitor signs in with their name, the child they're with, and the time. Staff will ask to see photo ID the first time, and any time they don't recognize you.
- Wear the visitor sticker staff give you, so the kids and adults know who's in the room.
- Watch from the family area that staff point you to.
- Sign out when you leave. If you're taking your child home early, that's a normal sign-out with an ID check.
Helping class run smoothly
- Kids work in timed blocks with rotating jobs. Please let them finish without stepping in, even when a mix crashes. Learning from a mistake ("Data!") is part of the lesson.
- Keep conversations quiet. Kids are listening on headphones and to each other.
- Please don't photograph or record other children. You may photograph your own child only where no other child is identifiable. See photos and recordings.
- Save questions for coaches until the Move Break or the end of class, unless it's urgent.
- Spotlight is volunteers only. Please don't push your child to sign up if they've chosen not to.
- If you see something that worries you, tell a staff member or report a concern.
Little DJs (ages 5–7): you're not a visitor. Your child's grown-up stays and learns alongside them every session.
Who can visit
- Parents and legal guardians of enrolled children.
- Adults on your child's authorized-pickup list, if you've told us in writing that they may observe.
- Other visitors (partners, park staff, funders) by arrangement with Stephen Henry, and always signed in. No visitor is ever left alone with a child, and visitors don't take children to the restroom.
The only exceptions are for safety
We may ask a visitor to wait or leave only to keep children safe, for example:
- an adult who appears impaired, or who brings alcohol, tobacco, vaping products or cannabis
- a court order or custody restriction we've been given
- a weather or lockdown situation in progress
- behavior that threatens or frightens children or staff
If we ever ask you to step out, a staff member will tell you why, and you can raise it afterward with Stephen Henry or through the grievance procedure.
The class app
You can follow your own child live from anywhere with your private family link to /dj-lab/live/, emailed when your child is approved for a class. It shows only your own child: the class clock and block, their station and job, self-ratings, "Next time I'll…", Mix Log, Passport, the coach's glow note for your child, and coach messages. It never shows other children. Families don't use a class code. If your link is lost or shared, the coach re-issues it. Contact details, medical notes and pickup lists are never shown.
