Insurance Certificate
Status: Not yet in place. No insurance policy for the Lab has been bound. Coverage is required before the first class, and the certificate will be posted on this page.
Required coverage
Before any class runs, Ras Tafari Inc. must have:
- General liability insurance of $1,000,000 per occurrence, naming the Chicago Park District as additional insured.
- Sexual abuse and molestation coverage.
What these mean, in plain words
- General liability covers claims that someone was hurt, or property was damaged, because of the program.
- Additional insured means the Chicago Park District is also protected under the policy for claims arising from the Lab's activities on park property.
- Sexual abuse and molestation coverage is a separate type of coverage. Many general liability policies exclude abuse claims. We require this coverage on purpose, so that a child who is harmed has a path to compensation. Coverage is never a substitute for prevention. Our first job is to stop abuse from happening; see Safety.
What we will post here
When coverage is bound, we will post:
- the certificate of insurance, showing the insurer, coverage types, limits, the policy period, and the Chicago Park District as additional insured;
- confirmation that sexual abuse and molestation coverage is included;
- the renewal date.
Policy numbers may be redacted from the posted copy. Park officials can request the full certificate from Stephen Henry.
Q-Ality Sound's certificates
Q-Ality Sound provides sound, stage and lighting under a written vendor agreement (a draft for board approval). It carries its own insurance and names Ras Tafari Inc. as additional insured. Its certificates must be on file before the first session; that's item 17 on the Launch Readiness Checklist. Ras Tafari Inc. also plans coverage for the donated DJ gear (see equipment use).

The limits Q-Ality must carry are set in the vendor agreement when the board approves it. If a Q-Ality certificate lapses, Q-Ality may not work the program until it is restored.
If coverage lapses
If any required coverage expires or is cancelled, classes stop until it is replaced, and this page will say so.
