How It's Played

A lively, instructional ring game. Children form a circle while singing a call-and-response song about sending a child named Nicky to school. The person in the center must perform specific, synchronized dance moves---such as the classic Jamaican "wainin" (whining) waistline movement---on command, before tagging the next dancer.

Cultural Roots

A vibrant example of Afro-Jamaican oral tradition preserved by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), emphasizing dance as a medium for socialization and identity.
