How It's Played

A poetic version of hide-and-seek played exclusively at night under a full moon. The seeker stands at a central base and chants to signal the start of the search. Because shadows are long and deceptive in the moonlight, players must use stealth, crawling through tall guinea grass or behind outbuildings to make it back to the base without being spotted and named. - **Chant:** "Moonlight shiny, ketch mi if yuh can!"

Cultural Roots

Originating in rural, pre-electricity Jamaica, this game transformed the night into a safe, communal playground, reinforcing a deep familiarity with the local landscape.
