How It's Played

A highly anticipated balance and coordination race featured at school sports days. Competitors line up at a starting mark, each holding the handle of a metal spoon in their mouth. A small green lime is balanced in the bowl of the spoon. At the whistle, players must sprint or fast-walk to the finish line without dropping the lime; if it falls, they must stop, replace it, or face elimination.

Cultural Roots

Adapted from traditional British "egg and spoon" races, Jamaicans substituted local limes, turning it into a classic test of focus and physical composure.
