A piece of sewing thread and a seasonal June Bug.

How It's Played

A seasonal kinetic toy. During the heavy rains of May and June, large brown *June Bugs* (May beetles) emerge in abundance. Children gently tie a long, lightweight sewing thread around one of the beetle's rear legs. When the beetle takes flight, it flies in smooth, continuous concentric circles overhead, functioning like a living, miniature mechanical airplane or kite.

Cultural Roots

A classic rural rite of passage that turned seasonal insect migrations into interactive, low-cost engineering play.
