How It's Played

A magical nighttime activity. During summer evenings, children gather empty glass jars or clean plastic containers and punch tiny air holes in the lids. They hunt in the bushes for *Peenie Wallies* (large click beetles with glowing green eye-spots) or *Blinkies* (traditional fireflies), gently trapping them to create an organic, glowing lantern that illuminates their bedrooms for an hour before the insects are released back into the wild.

Cultural Roots

Celebrated in classic Jamaican folk songs ("Peenie Wallie, Peenie Wallie, look at dem shine..."), this activity fostered a deep appreciation for nighttime ecology and oral folklore.
