How It's Played

A highly athletic, traditional test of strength played among older children in rural coastal areas. Two competitors race to see who can scale a straight, marked coconut palm tree to a safe height using traditional foot-binding techniques (wrapping a cloth loop around the feet to grip the trunk).

Cultural Roots

Directly tied to the agricultural skills of rural Jamaica, where gathering coconuts for water, jelly, and oil required immense physical agility and specialized climbing techniques.
