How It's Played

A simple, natural kinetic toy. The round, bottom half of a dried calabash fruit is cut and thoroughly scraped clean inside. A smooth, pointed wooden stick is driven through a central hole in the bottom. Children twist the upper part of the stick between their palms, sending the round calabash shell into a smooth, wobbling spin on flat surfaces like a large wooden top.

Cultural Roots

Rooted heavily in Taino and West African domestic crafting traditions, utilizing the hardy, versatile calabash shell for immediate kinetic entertainment.
